Properties and effect of forming sewage sludge into lightweight ceramics

Min YUE, Qinyan YUE, Yuanfeng QI, Baoyu GAO, Hui YU

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2012, Volume 6, Issue 1,   Pages 117-124 doi: 10.1007/s11783-010-0220-3

Abstract: In this work we investigated the chemical, thermal and toxic properties of dried sewage sludge (DSS), the preparation and properties of lightweight sludge ceramic (LSC) and the mechanisms of action of the organic and inorganic foaming agents (OFAs and IFAs). The chemical components and thermal properties of the raw materials were studied by Energy Dispersive X-ray Detection (EDX) and Thermogravimetric Analysis and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC/TGA). The mineral phases of the raw materials and the formed ceramics were determined by X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The leaching characteristics of heavy metals were investigated with Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES). Different ratios of DSS and clay were mixed and pressed into raw pellets. After drying and preheating treatment, the raw pellets were sintered at 1150°C for 10 min. The physical properties of LSC (50 wt% DSS added) were tested. The results showed that when the addition of DSS was above 50 wt%, LSC began to shrink, and a maximum density occurred. The environmental safety of LSC was satisfactory. XRD showed that some new mineral phases formed in the LSC. Observation of the microstructure by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) indicated that the body of LSC was porous.

Study on electrical ignition and micro-explosion properties of HAN-based monopropellant droplet

Yonggang YU, Ming LI, Yanhuang ZHOU, Xin LU, Yuzhu PAN,

Frontiers in Energy 2010, Volume 4, Issue 3,   Pages 430-435 doi: 10.1007/s11708-010-0010-4

Abstract: The results show that when the LP1846 droplet is electrified, it mainly goes through an evaporization process, a periodic expansion and contraction process, a stronger thermal decomposition process, and an ignitionand combustion process. The periodic expansion and contraction process accompanies the droplet micro-explosion phenomenon, andthe micro-explosion mechanism is formed mainly due to the overheated water component in LP1846.

Abstract:

Based on results of radiate-hydrodynamic and TNT charge hydrodynamic blast wave calculations, the physical characteristic in close- in and distance regions of two kinds of explosions and the development of different blast wave systems are studied. Some important conclusions for protection engineering are obtained. Carbon-coated lithium titanate: effect of carbon precursor addition processes on the electrochemical

Shilei Ding, Zelong Jiang, Jing Gu, Hongliang Zhang, Jiajia Cai, Dongdong Wang

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 1,   Pages 148-155 doi: 10.1007/s11705-020-2022-x

Abstract: In this paper, two carbon-coated lithium titanate (LTO-C1 and LTO-C2) composites were synthesized using the ball-milling-assisted calcination method with different carbon precursor addition processes. The physical and electrochemical properties of the as-synthesized negative electrode materials were characterized to investigate the effects of two carbon-coated LTO synthesis processes on the electrochemical performance of LTO. The results show that the LTO-C2 synthesized by using Li CO and TiO as the raw materials and sucrose as the carbon source in a one-pot method has less polarization during lithium insertion and extraction, minimal charge transfer impedance value and the best electrochemical performance among all samples. At the current density of 300 mA·h·g , the LTO-C2 composite delivers a charge capacity of 126.9 mA·h·g , and the reversible capacity after 300 cycles exceeds 121.3 mA·h·g in the voltage range of 1.0–3.0 V. Furthermore, the electrochemical impedance spectra show that LTO-C2 has higher electronic conductivity and lithium diffusion coefficient, which indicates the advantages in electrode kinetics over LTO and LTO-C1. The results clarify the best electrochemical properties of the carbon-coated LTO-C2 composite prepared by the one-pot method.
